Dr. Kirklin graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon SK in June of this year. She was born and raised in Edmonton AB and is excited to be back in her home province. Kirklin grew up playing club soccer, running track & field, and acting for stage and film. She originally planned to pursue a career in the performing arts, but her love of animals combined with her keen interest in biology and physiology pulled her in a new direction after her first year of her undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta. Kirklin calls it her “quarter life crisis” when she did a complete 180 and switched from the Faculty of Arts into the Faculty of Science and began working towards a Biological Sciences degree with a Specialization in Animal Biology, which she achieved with Distinction in 2015. That same year she gained admission to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, and the rest, they say, is history. Kirklin has broad interests within the realm of small animal clinical practice, but she is especially excited to gain more experience in the areas of Emergency & Critical Care, as well as Soft Tissue Surgery and Internal Medicine. In her spare time – now that she actually has some spare time! – Kirklin enjoys spending time outdoors (hiking, camping, biking), reading fiction novels, attending live theatre & music shows, and hanging out with her beloved Labradoodle Rosey. Dr. Kirklin is excited to join the team at Family Pet Hospital and finally put her education to work helping to improve the health and wellbeing of Southern Alberta’s cute critters!
