Dr. West has strong southern Alberta roots, having been born in Lethbridge and raised in Stirling.

Over the years, he has had many pets, including cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, and gerbils, which helped spark his love for animals.

Dr. West’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science at the University of Lethbridge, followed by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Calgary. He was fortunate enough to complete a clinical rotation at the Calgary Zoo, which was a memorable experience. In addition to his formal schooling, Dr. West completed his Fear Free certification while in vet school and has participated in various exotics-focused clubs and seminars to expand his knowledge beyond the core curriculum. While he enjoys the diversity of veterinary medicine, his special areas of interest include dentistry and exotics.

Dr. West and his family have moved back to southern Alberta, where they enjoy life together with his wife,  two daughters, one son, and a chinchilla. Outside of work, Dr. West loves spending time with his family, playing guitar, jogging, and enjoying video games
